Research and laboratory testing are performed using state-of-the-art equipment and software, as well as traditional tools and equipment to provide a better perception of the need of change. Activities carried out in this Department include:
- Research into real accidents using laser and ultrasound to take vehicle measurements and learn about the deformability of structural parts and components.
- Vector analysis of the effect of collisions between cars through simulations.
- Research experiments on the reparability and replacement of steel and aluminum parts as well as synthetic materials such as plastic, fiberglass, carbon fiber and kevlar, to establish proper work methods and procedures.
- Experimental damage analysis to establish technical criteria on which to base decisions to repair or replace parts, and determine total losses.
